Embakes A Chocolate Mousse

Okay, so this post was actually meant to be an Embakes of some macarons that Emily (other one) and I made last weekend but they were an absolute fail whale, so we won't do that. Although you can view a picture of them on my instagram if you want. Anyway, today I am going to share with you a lovely Gordon Ramsay chocolate mousse recipe which my family and I use and love all of the time.

Ingredients

150 g dark chocolate250 ml creme fraiche284 ml double cream25 g icing sugar, sifted1 -2 tablespoon coffee liqueur (optional)64 g chocolate (crunchie frozen for 10 minutes)

Method

  1. Break the dark chocolate into small pieces (reserving 25g for grating later) and place in a bowl that fits snugly over a pan of boiling water. Leave until the chocolate has completely melted and then remove from the heat and set aside.
  2. Add the crème fraiche to the melted chocolate and whisk until combined. Put the double cream and icing sugar into a separate bowl and whisk with an electric whisk until it forms soft peaks. Fold the chocolate mixture into the cream, add the coffee liquer and stir to combine.
  3. Remove the chocolate covered honeycomb bars from the freezer, remove the packets and wrap them in a clean tea towel. Place the tea towel under a chopping board and press down hard on the chopping board to crush the honeycomb. Open up the tea towel and tip the crushed honeycomb into the mousse and gently fold through with a spatula. Spoon the mousse into four small serving dishes and then grate over the remaining chocolate and serve.

That is how you make my families favourite chocolate mousse, so yep, you better enjoy it!

Prom Makeup Look

Omg guys!! It's today, it's freaking today! Today is the day every girl in my year has been building up for...Prom (lets face it, it is a bigger event for us girls over boys). The time has come around so fast and by the time you guys have probably read this I would've had my nails done, tidied my house ready for my after party and may even have had my hair done. But, this is how I am doing my makeup for prom. Unless, I have a sudden mind change today.

Base

Firstly I used Benefit's porefessional as a primer and to blur out any pores. Then for the base I wanted to use something that wasn't too glowy as there is a lot of flash photography going on at prom for this reason I used L'Oreal's True Match foundation in the colour Rose Ivory. I find that although this foundation does have SPF in it it doesn't seem to flash back as bad as most foundations. For my concealer I used the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in the colour 01 because it has a high coverage and is great at hiding those pesky dark circles and blemishes. For powder I used Maybelline's Fit Me pressed powder, just to mattify the look and keep the foundation on for longer.

Cheeks and contour

For my cheeks I wanted to ensure I didn't look too pale otherwise I would completely wash out in photographs but I also wanted a bit of a blush because that looks more natural on my pale skin. To bronze my cheek bones and temples I used Bourjois' bronzer in the lightest shade and then used their creamy blusher in the shade 03. To make the look more natural I also made sure my blusher wasn't applied to close to my nose because that is a big makeup "no no". I also used use a very small amount of Soap&Glory's Glow All Out highlighter along the tops of my cheeks, t-zone, cupid's bow and chin to give myself a natural glow. But when I say a little bit I mean a little bit because I do not want that camera washing me out and making me look like Caspar the Ghost!

Eyes and Eyebrows

Okay, so... for the base of my eyeshadow I used Urban Decay's original primer potion, I then went onto use my Naked 3 palette on the rest of my lid, I used Strange on my brow-bone, Limit on my upper lid, and Liar in my crease. I then used Trick in my outer corners to give the look a more rusty effect. Afterwards I blended Liar a little bit under my lower lash line also. For my eyeliner I used Maybelline's 24 hour gel liner and winged it out a little bit (I can't go without a little wing). For my mascara I used Maybelline's The Rocket masacra in waterproof so it lasts all night. Finally for my eyebrows I used an Eylure eyebrow pencil.

I think that is everything! How are you doing your makeup for prom?

Wisdom Wednesday #11

It's back! My Wisdom Wednesday series is back and boy am I excited. I'm sorry it is a week late but when writing these posts I do need a little bit of time to think because some of the quotes I use do mean something to me and I want to analyse them in the best way possible for you guys to fully understand them and maybe even learn something from them. Anyway, I am not going to bore you for any longer with my ramblings as to why I don't do Wisdom Wednesday ever Wednesday of the year, instead, I am going to jump straight into it...
Lean too much on the approval of people, and it becomes a bed of thorns.
We live in a society today where we automatically check with other people to see if things are okay. Be it our makeup, hair and outfit or even something we desperately want to do, we will always check for others approval first. The problem is, there is a difference between asking for a parent's approval to asking for everybody elses approval. Why should we have to check with our friends if the outfit we are wearing is okay? Why should we have to check with friends that it is okay to go and see The Fault in Our Stars at the cinema without them? It almost seems as if we are controlled by others opinions.
Of course there are times when we are going to check things are okay to be polite, and ensure nobody gets upset because that is the right thing to do, but sometimes we also need to learn how to make a decision by ourselves. Be more independent, and stop asking "Is it okay...?" all of the time. I am a strong believer in freedom and self-expression, and therefore I believe we should be aloud to make our own decisions from time to time.
The reason I have chosen this quote is because as a teenage girl, asking for approval from friends is an everyday occurrence. The problem is, asking for approval has gone from asking what the dress code is to asking if a complete outfit is okay. We do it automatically, without even looking in the mirrors to see whether we like what we see or not, and sometimes the feedback we get back from our friends is not what we want to hear. Friends will be honest with you because that is what friendship is about, but this is when approval becomes a bed of thorns. We rely on feedback and opinions so much that if it is negative it will punch us in the chest and we will go flying down to the ground.
This is where we need to stop. Stop asking if this and that is okay. Be happy for you, don't care what others think all of the time. The less you ask if things are okay the more people will stop judging and giving their unwanted opinions. Why? Because you didn't ask. People will look at you and think, "They're happy with how they look/what they are doing." and that is all that matters. The fact is, if you haven't asked for approval, people won't even make a second thought on it. They will look at you and believe that you are happy within yourself, and it will not even cross their mind whether or not they approve or not, because in that moment, their opinion will not matter. Your own approval is all that matters.

A (kind of) collective haul

I have a little haul for you all today, and when I say little I do mean it, because I haven't bought loads lately, because I do not have a lot of money to spend at the moment, hence why I am searching for a job. Even so, my mum has treated me to a few things and I have spent a little bit of money and what is shown in this post has been picked up over the last month or so.
Okay, firstly I will start off with what I have picked up recently from Primark. The first couple of bits I picked up last month, but I thought I would include them in this haul anyway, because it is (kind of) collective. The first thing I picked up were some high-waisted blue jeans for sixth form. At my sixth form we are aloud to wear jeans but not ripped ones, and as I only have one other pair of jeans that aren't ripped I thought I would pick up a cheaper pair from Primark. These very much resemble Topshop Joni jeans, so if you are looking for a cheaper version of them, then Primark is that place to look. I also picked up a little colourful, floral blouse, which has a smock shape to it, meaning it has a flowy skirt like thing on the bottom but is also really loose. This is perfect for summer. The final thing I quite recently bought in Primark was an ice lolly t-shirt. I have no idea why, I just liked it and I love a good novelty, casual t-shirt to hang around in when I have nothing to get dressed up for.
The next place I went too was Accessorize, where I bought some last little jewellery bits for my prom. Both bits of jewellery I picked up were from the sterling silver range as I wanted the jewellery to look at least a little bit special because prom is a special day. The first piece of jewellery I picked up was a little feather necklace. I love feathers because they resemble peacefulness and serenity (I believe) and I just thought it was super cute. There is also a little gem in the feather which I didn't notice until I got home, but I think that is really cool because when it catches certain lights it glimmers. I also got some earrings, because I haven't got many earrings and most of them are kind of cheap and gross *you know, the ones that leave your earlobes grubby*. Anyway, the gem in the earrings are cubic zirconia and they are so beautiful and princessy, I cannot wait to wear them.
I also went to H&M wear I found the most gorgeous dress. It is coral in colour and is a skater cut, which is my favourite type of dress because it suits me the best. It has a mesh detailing around the top of the dress, which I love because it makes the dress look more dainty and gives the dress a bit more detail.
Finally, I also made an order on Feelunique because I noticed they were doing 20% off your first order deal, and because I'd never bought anything from Feelunique before I thought I would take advantage in this deal. Basically, I have wanted the Naked 3 palette since it was released but was too scared to buy it because let's face it, it isn't cheap. But, I wanted this palette so bad, and I thought it would be perfect for my prom makeup. Therefore, I made a bit of a splurge and finally bought it. I have decided to make myself feel less bad about spending a lot of money on it, I will call it my end of exam treat to myself, because we all deserve to treat ourselves occasionally, don't we?

Prom Preparation

Hello Everybody,
You may or may not know that Thursday I have my end of school prom, and I am so excited/nervous/pumped for it. But, there are a lot of things to get done if you are a girl and getting ready for prom. For this reason I thought I would make a prom preparation post, so that if any of you, like me, have your prom coming up (or maybe some other big event) you can be super prepared so that everything will run smoothly on the big day.

1. Keep up the skincare

This is important if you want good skin for prom. Make sure you don't get slack on all of your skincare before prom because you do not want your face resembling the Alps on the big day. Of course, if your skin isn't perfect on prom day you can always conceal the baddies, but just ensure that you don't give up on the cleansing, toning and moisturising. If you are really worried about your skin on the day of prom, perhaps you could use a face mask a couple of days in advance also.
Also, make sure the skin on your body is in good condition. If like me you suffer from eczema, keep on top of it with some hydrocortisone cream, that way you will have less chance of having scaly skin on the day of prom. Also, make sure you moisturise elsewhere too, focusing mostly on dry spots like you elbows and hands.

2. Make sure you have everything

Please don't be the person at prom who realises an hour before your transport is meant to leave that you haven't got a bag to keep you phone and purse in. Make a list of all of the things you need, at least 4 days before prom so you can go out and make some last minute purchases. For me, I bought some last jewellery bits and makeup on Monday (haul to come) ready for next week.

3. Make a plan

Make a plan of things you are going to do to prepare for prom. I made a plan starting from a couple of days before the big day. If you have any appointments (hair/nails/etc) write them on this plan so you aren't late or don't forget to go to them. Write down literally everything you plan to do. From meeting friends, to doing your makeup, making a plan will make the whole event a lot less stressful and will also mean you can organise your time better, because you certainly do not want to be rushing around last minute.

I hope this has helped any of you who are preparing for prom. Don't forget, this is meant to be a memorable night, so don't get stressed and have fun.

Outfit of the day (OOTD): Picnic Edition

Firstly, I am going to begin this post off with an apology because I was meant to be posting the first Wisdom Wednesday post yesterday but I didn't actually remember until 11 last night and thought by the time I had finished editing photos and writing out the post it wouldn't be Wednesday any more. Therefore, I will definitely ensure the series will restart next week.
This week I am doing another outfit of the day because you guys all seemed to very much enjoy the outfit post I did a couple of weeks ago, so, here it is...

What I wore...

My favourite polka dot shirt from New Look
High-waisted shorts, they were from New Look a couple of weeks ago
Juju jelly shoes from Bank Fashion
Both my Sunglasses and watch are from New Look too

Okay, okay... I am wearing that flipping shirt again. But, it is my favourite and it has yet to star in an outfit post therefore I thought it was important I gave it a whole special post to itself (kind of). As you know, from my last post I went on a picnic on Friday, and I thought I would take the opportunity to do an outfit post of it. All of these photos were in no way intended for the post, thus I apologise if I look a bit expressionless in some of them.
This outfit was perfect because it was so hot on Friday. The shirt is loose so it doesn't stick and make you feel gross, but it is also cropped, which is why it looks so great with my high-waisted shorts. I also wore my black jellies without socks this time, which was like wearing sandals, although, I'm thankful they are closed toed as I had no time to be painting my toe nails.

Summer Picnic Food #2014bloggerchallenge

Hello Everybody (it's been  a while since I've said that)
Today is another #2014bloggerchallenge post, and I am sure it is getting more and more challenging by the months, but that's what a challenge is for isn't it? This weeks topic was Food. I wasn't sure what to write about with this topic because being a food lover that title is so broad, but because I had an amazing picnic with my friends Friday afternoon I thought I would write about picnic food instead.
Basically, my friends and I bought a load of junk food for us to all share out and enjoy together as a bit of an end of school celebration. But I did also take a bit of proper lunch with me too. I took a tuna pasta salad, which was lovely, fresh and cooling which was very nice considering it was scorching on Friday. Also, I took some pineapple with me because it is a great summer fruit and also my favourite. Not only that, but it's fruit, therefore it's healthy, right?
The rest of the food consisted of all foods that teenagers love grazing on, cocktail sausages, crisps, sausage rolls, brownies, muffins, cookies  and biscuits. You name it, we had it. Although, Emily did kindly bring a bunch of grapes with her to make our picnic look at least a little bit healthy.
Overall, I had a lovely day out with my friends and all of the food was delicious, although we certainly didn't manage to finish all of it, because there was so much of it! After stuffing our faces with all of the things we try to avoid at any time of the year apart from Christmas and Birthdays we had fun running around the park, playing catch and messing about with with bubbles like 5 year old's. Definitely a last day of school I will remember.

Blogger Love Tag!

Now, I know I haven't actually been tagged to do this, but as I am in quite a giving and sharing mood lately, so when I saw this tag floating around on Bloglovin I knew I wanted to give it a go. This tag is The Blogger Love tag and it is designed for bloggers to share their favourite blogs with others. So... Let's get started.

What was the first blog you ever came across?

I was quite unsure of the answer for this question for a while, but I actually think that it was Fleur De Force's blog that I first ever came across. This is because I had actually been watching Youtube videos for quite a long time before I actually came across blogging. I loved Fleur's honest makeup reviews, but they were never too lengthy so I didn't get too bored.

Favourite blog reads.

Hmmm... *scrolls through bloglovin feed*.  I probably always read jennypurrlifesetsail and couturegirl. They are each fairly different blogs from one another, but I just enjoy reading them, and all of them have really pretty pictures *which always draws me in*.

Best Blogging Friend.

I wouldn't necessarily say I've made any best friends through blogging because the idea of being best friends with someone over the internet that I have never met before scares me. But one of my "real" best friends does actually have a blog, so I guess she'd be it. So... my blogging best friend is Kelly.

Name a blog that enables your purchases.

I would probably say icovetthee enables quite a lot of my purchases. I  think it's because all of Alix's opinions are her own, and she also has a very tidy blog, making it easy for me to see the product in the image and not be drawn away from it because of a hefty blog design.

5 blogs everyone should be reading.

Salted Roses and Style Scrapbook for brilliant fashion posts. The Sunday Girl and Gh0stparties for a bit of beauty and life advice. And Inthefrow for a mixture of fabulous fashion, beauty and even some of her travelling adventures.

Your favourite way to read blogs.

I love reading blogs on bloglovin on my phone, because it is so easy to do on the go. I normally find myself reading blogs in bed at night. My reading books have totally been neglected because of this. I also enjoy reading them on a Saturday on my laptop however, with a nice big mug of tea.

Bloggers that inspire you.

This is a pretty easy choice if I am honest. Michelle Phan is such an inspirational blogger. She has gone from having quite a rough childhood, to being a successful businesswomen, and an online beauty guru sensation. Not only does she teach young women the art of beauty but also teaches them how to feel empowered. She has such a wise way with words and I am sure she has inspired many and not just I.

Favourite blog design/look.

I love Essiebutton's new blog design. It is so colourful and always makes me smile. Also, the cute illustration of her dog Reggie is just adorable. Not only that but the colourful specks makes me think of sprinkles, and we all know how much I love sprinkles, especially when included on cake.

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

I love it when I get lovely comments from my readers, saying they love my blog or they cannot wait until my next post. It makes me smile and feel so happy. I also love how blogging is my little outlet. Somewhere where I can ramble on about things that I enjoy without boring the socks off of my friends and family.

Name a blogger that you would most like to see write a book in the future!

Hmm... I'm not sure because all bloggers are amazing at what they do already *writing*. I think I would like to see Inthefrow write a book about all of her adventures in America. She is amazing at giving all of her travelling advice and I think this awesome advice needs to be published for everyone else to see. Also, it is something different to all of the beauty books we see getting released.

I hope you enjoyed today's little tag post and if you would like to give this tag a whirl, please do and leave links below of yours so I can have a read.

Announcement and other stuff!!

This post may be slightly anti-climactic depending on how you see it. But today is when I announce the surprise I have been talking about for a rather long time. Now, I have actually had a complete change of plans very recently about the big surprise, so it may seem a bit pants to some of you. Nevertheless, I am going to go ahead with explaining this surprise to you all, because I want to involve you in this.

Hopefully you will know by now that I am finishing school tomorrow, which is very exciting and I am finding it very hard to fathom right now, and in September I will be joining sixth form. With that being said, I have quite a long holiday away from school. This means that I have more time to blog. As of next week I will be resuming my normal blogging schedule, which is Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, as well as starting part two of my Wisdom Wednesday series, so hopefully my posts will become more exciting again.
Leading on from what I just said I want to involve you guys more with my Wisdom Wednesday posts, there are nearly 200 of you now (which continues to blow my mind) which means I want to make them better. To do so, I want to hear some of your favourite quotes. You've heard some of mine from my last series and therefore I want to share some of yours. For this to work I would love for some of you to drop me an email with your favourite quote, what it means to you, and then I will go about creating the rest of the post. I will also continue using some of my own quotes too.
My next announcement is that I am planning to blog every day in August. I know some people blog everyday, 365 days of the year, but I simply wouldn't have the time and ideas for that. I decided on blogging everyday in August because at the moment I have no plans for it *apart from finding out my GCSE results* and would therefore think it would be nice to spend some more of my days blogging. Due to me committing myself to blogging for 31 days straight however, I would like you guys to comment ideas of what you want to see below. So far I plan on doing a Sunday round up, Wisdom Wednesday's and some more Embakes posts, as well as reviews and things between (that is what I need ideas for).
But, I would also like your help with this challenge. I have decided I want to share more with you guys, so as well as sharing your Wisdom Wednesday advice, I would love a guest poster every Friday of this month. I have never had anyone guest post on my blog before but I feel like it is a nice way of sharing with my readers some other bloggers content and also to give my blog a fresh vibe every so often. I mean, if I blogged for 31 days straight I'm sure you'd get bored of me.
Not only is this going to go on in August but I am planning a little revamp for my blog in the coming weeks. The first thing I plan on sorting is my header because I am aware that the little picture of me in the corner is very orange, and does look a little odd. I would also like to arrange it to be easier for you guys to use, therefore if you have any refurbishment ideas please comment them down below.
Anyway, a quick reminder of what I want you all to do is to email me your Wisdom Wednesday post ideas. Comment below any post ideas for the month of August and to also email me if you are interested in guest posting for my blog. Do not email me immediately with posts because I do not want to let anyone down, but if I would like your help then I will be sure to reply telling you so. And finally, comment below and help me redesign my blog.
As always, if you need anything then do not me afraid to email me, tweet me or comment down below. And also, if you haven't already and are interested in what I am doing with my blog in the coming months then please follow me on bloglovin, to keep up to date with my posts.
I hope you are as excited as I am about this little challenge. I hope I haven't disappointed you all too much considering I did change my plans very quickly overnight, but even so I am very excited about getting you guys more involved with my blog and hope that as many of you as possible can get involved.

Summer outfit of the day (OOTD)

It's been a week guys! A week! Believe it or not but this is the longest I have gone without posting... I'm commited I know. This past week however has gone past like a whirlwind, and I feel like I haven't actually done much even so. Yes, I started the week with a few exams, but after that, apart from a little bit of maths revision and trying my first iced latté (which was very yummy by the way) I have been generally quite unproductive. Hopefully though, with only a couple more exams left I can get back into my usual blogging schedule, which will be nice.
Yesterday was a lovely day here where I lived and although nothing very interesting happened I thought that I would dress up and show you what I wore anyway. The outfit that I am wearing is definitely that fun day out with friends sort of outfit. Quite suitable for a picnic I would suggest.
Also, do you like the colour of my garden shed? We decorated our garden the other day and painted it plum and lilac, I love it and I am kind of surprised my Dad gave into my Mum wanting to get it painted quite a girly colour. Our entire house is officially very very purple now, but I'm not complaining. In fact, the sofa that I am currently sitting on is plum *plum coloured, not the actual fruit*.
Also, I have a little grumpy selfie going on in the corner of my collage, just so you guys can have a close up of yesterday's makeup look. I won't go into detail about what I was wearing as makeup but if you would like a different post about it then please comment below and I can go into more detail about it.

What I was wearing

Dark wash denim dungerees from River Island (here)
Lilac print t-shirt with stud detailing around the neck from Dorothy Perkins (no longer sold but similar here)
Statement rose gold and baby pink  necklace from Primark
Black Juju Jelly shoes from Bank (here)
Lilac frilly socks from Topshop (here)
I hope you enjoyed today's OOTD post because I know I said I would do more of these at the beginning of the year but they have been a bit lack luster. If you would like to see similar posts in the future please comment below with feedback because I love hearing from you guys and I try my best to reply to everybody.

May Favourites

It's June. It's freaking June. It's summer. It's officially summer. Obviously, with a new month comes a look back on the last with the obligatory favourites post. Yep, that's correct this is my May favourites. Personally I think this months favourites post is going to be the hardest of all of them, mainly because the month of May has been pretty boring for me. Revision, more revision and then exams has been my life this month, but you know what? I am kind of getting used to this lifestyle now. Tomorrow I have my business exam, and I don't even feel nervous. What happened to the girl that was freaking out about her exams at the end of April? Hell knows. Anyway, before this becomes a rather large ramble of nonsense that nobody actually cares about and me just spilling out my emotions to everybody once again about how exams aren't as bad as they seem I better start thinking about my favourites...

Beauty

This is going to be pretty similar to last months favourite, but I guess I haven't grown apart from it yet, and it is Nivea's essential care lip balm. I had one of these a few months ago and lost it *I know, utter heartbreak*. So, I went into boots, saw it on the shelf and was like, "I cannot live without you any longer lip balm, come home with me." So after paying the pound I was happy as larry again because I had been reunited with my lifesaver, Nivea essential care lip balm *well, that was the most tear jerking love story I've ever heard*. This lip balm is super duper moisturising and paired with my wonderful lush lip scrub I haven't had a dry lip in yonks.

Fashion

I got a new shirt, and everybody knows that when you get something new you love it and want to wear it everyday until it's starts to get a bit smelly. Or at least, I think that's what everybody else does too? Back to the point, I got a red shirt with white polka dots on it from New Look a couple of weeks ago and absolutely adore it. I would say it falls into the smart casual ground of dress code and that is why I love it, because it can be dressed up or down, and the colours are also really bright and summery.

Food

I've not really had a food favourite this month to be honest, but if I had to choose one it would have to be wheatabix, purely because it has been my brain power throughout my exam period. I believe that possibly without my wheatabix recently I would've crashed and burned during my exams.

Life

I've had a lot going on lately and I thought I would quickly mention that my exams have certainly not been my life favourite this month even if I say they weren't that bad. My first favourite thing this month was my best friend Katie's birthday. We had a lovely day chatting and listening  to music and then in the evening a few of us went to a Chinese restaurant and had eyes that were definitely bigger than our bellies, I even had to say no to dessert! Also, our last day of school was amazing because we had a wonderful day all dressing up in our best clothes, firstly sitting in the sun and then having the most lovely leaving assembly. My best friend sang a wonderful classical song and it was incredible. Well done Kate!! The final favourite day of mine was Wednesday, when my friends and I went to see Bad Neighbours at the cinema and as much as it has bad reviews it is actually really funny. As well as that, we went to the arcade and went into the photo booth for a few pictures and a horror simulator which scared the living daylights out of me.
Not only that, but I have thoroughly enjoyed being with my family, from bowling together and toasting marshmallows in the newly decorated garden these days have all been great, I think all of these exams have made me enjoy the little things a bit more.

Music

The song I have been loving this month is Budapest by George Ezra. I have no idea why apart from the fact that George Ezra's crisp voice is so amazing. I just... eugh... love it.

I hope you enjoyed today's post, and are looking forward to this month as much as I am. I mean finishing exams, prom and my big surprise for you guys is all very exciting, and I cannot believe how excited I am to get back into all of this again. The end of this month may see the return of one of my most popular blogging series too, which is quite exciting. Before I get too carried away though, I am going to end this post. Please comment your favourites of the month below , to share with everyone too.
